Make a resolution to change a child's life this January

Mother and boys readingJanuary is a time for new beginnings and fresh starts so what better time to take the plunge and foster?

Of course, the decision to foster is not one that is made overnight but if it is something you have pondered for a while or if you are keen to find out more about what is involved, now is the time to act.

We hold regular Fostering Information Evenings where you can come along and find out all you need to know, speak to a foster carer and our fostering social workers. Our next sessions are:

  • Wednesday 24 January, 7pm, The Hub, Easton Street, High Wycombe, HP11 1NJ
  • Thursday 8 March, 7pm, Aylesbury Opportunities Centre, Thame Road South, Aylesbury, HP21 8TS
  • Wednesday 14 March, 7pm, The Hub, Easton Street, High Wycombe, HP11 1NJ

One family who took the decision to foster recently are Rachel and Paul Stevens from High Wycombe. The pair have been fostering since August last year and currently care for two young brothers. Rachel explained: “We have four children of our own but had always thought about fostering. We have room in our home and hearts and we wanted to give a home to a child who really needs it.”

The couple attended an information evening and were pleasantly surprised by the welcoming atmosphere and helpfulness of everyone there: “It helped confirm our decision to foster,” explains Rachel.

The toddlers are thriving in Rachel and Paul’s care: “It’s amazing how well they have fitted into our family as that was something I was worried about initially,” admits Rachel. She continues: “It’s been brilliant, they are two very special little boys.  One of the most rewarding things is seeing them flourish with just a little bit of love, care and attention.”

With more than 400 children currently in care in Buckinghamshire we urgently need more foster carers like Rachel and Paul to open up their homes and hearts to help look after them. By fostering with Buckinghamshire County Council you will be given all the ongoing support and training you need as well as a generous allowance. You don’t need any special experience to foster, just a genuine desire to help.
