Support service for carers of all ages goes live
We know the vital role that carers play in supporting people to keep living in their own homes. We also recognise that to perform this vital role many carers may need support.
Our new service for carers is now live, meaning carers of all ages can now be supported by the same organisation, Carers Bucks.
The integrated Carer Support Service is for carers aged five and upwards. The new service was designed with people who currently use carer support, including young carers, so that it can be flexible enough to meet a range of needs. The service specification is closely aligned with our Better Lives strategy and includes:
- a whole family approach, working with their strengths
- ensuring that carers are supported to plan for the future
- building skills for independent living
- receive more intensive support at times of crisis
The service will not operate a 'drop-in', but will be location based and work closely with health care settings. For example carer champions will be available in GP surgeries and full time Carer Support Workers at will be at Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe and Wexham Park hospitals. There will also be continued work developing partnerships with schools.
We are currently running a social media campaign (‘Don’t be invisible’) to encourage carers to register with their GP and Carers Bucks, so that they can get this support that is available to them. For more information about the service go to www.carersbucks.org
