Reading Hack volunteering for 14 - 24 year olds

Reading Hack is a national programme led by young people aged 14 to 24 who do activities and volunteering to gain skills and experience and to inspire others to read.

We are looking for young volunteers to help us with the annual Summer Reading Challenge which takes place July to September this year.

What will you be doing?

Telling children and their families about the Summer Reading Challenge

Signing children up to the challenge

Encouraging children to talk about what they have been reading

Learn more about the library works, including the Dewey system

Assist with shelving and keeping the library tidy

Help customers to find books

Familiarise yourself with the Reading Hack website

Create at least 1 Reading Hack Display

Run/assist in at least 1 Reading Hack activity

You will gain:

Experience of working with children and families

Knowledge of children's reading habits and children's literature

Satisfaction from inspiring children to keep reading

Increased confidence

What skills and qualities do I need?

Outgoing and friendly manner

Good communication skills

Interest in libraries and reading

When will I be needed?

You can volunteer at times and days to suit you within library opening hours.

Please be aware that places for some roles are limited and not all opportunities are available in every library.
