Focus on... Mobile Libraries

Changes to the mobile library service will be introduced from 1st November 2013. These changes are part of ongoing work across the library service to save money but in planning these changes our approach has been to protect provision to rural and isolated communities.
At present we deliver a service once every two weeks, or in some cases, weekly. We will now be changing the frequency of our stops. In most instances, fortnightly visits change to monthly and weekly visits change to fortnightly, with effect from 1st November. We know that most customers, who visit the mobiles, do so on a monthly basis, as items are currently issued on a four week loan period. We are therefore confident that the changes to the frequency of our service will not significantly impact on those people who use mobiles. By moving to a monthly/fortnightly delivered service for all our mobile stops, it has been possible to maintain mobile visits to all existing villages and communities. No significant changes have been required to maintain the visits other than, in some cases, a change of time and/or time and day.
Local parish and town councils have been notified of these changes and individual customers and users of the service will be notified personally. Our mobile library drivers will keep customers up to date with an information leaflet detailing the changes to the timetable and will be reminding users of the changes to frequency of visits, and if applicable, the change of day and time. Posters will also be displayed on mobiles.
